Welcome to my brand new blog!

Hey there! I’m Becky. Welcome to my brand new blog.

I grew up in Central Pennsylvania, home of delicious Amish cooking. (Whoopie pies! Shoo fly pie! Pot pie! Basically…a lot of pie.) Central PA is also home to Hershey’s Chocolate. There are snack food companies like Utz’s, Martin’s, and Snyder’s of Hanover. And, it’s home to the York Fair, which features classic Pennsylvania delicacies such as as funnel cake and deep fried Oreos.

I earned my M.F.A. in Costume Design from the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University in 2005. I have spent the past twelve years working professionally as a costume designer and wardrobe stylist. My design and styling credits include television shows such as Conan, Saturday Night Live, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Today, The Meredith Vieira Show, and VH1’s Divas Live. I have worked on Broadway shows and at the Metropolitan Opera. I’m a member of two costuming unions. And, over the years I have dressed everyone from Al Pacino to Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. For more on the costume part of my life, feel free to visit my portfolio website. You can also visit my about page to learn more about me.

I’ve always loved to bake and cook. (Probably that Pennsylvania upbringing!) But, as I’ve worked my way through the often competitive, time-consuming, physically demanding, and emotionally draining world of the entertainment industry, food has become my stress relief and refuge from the chaos of NYC. I often find myself coming home after a long day on set to whip up some treats. No matter which show I’m working on, I tend to earn a reputation as “the crew member who brings in the baked goods.”

For six years I also owned and operated a company called Seek, which specialized in guided NYC fashion tours. In early 2017 I made the decision to close the business in order to more seriously pursue my passion for food, through a combination of travel, professional training, food photography courses, and of course a lot of eating and kitchen experimentation along the way.

I hope you’ll join me on my new adventure!

And yes, I chose the name “Baste Cut Fold” for this blog because each word doubles as both a sewing term and a cooking term, reflecting my two worlds—costumes and confections!
